Clean Water Initiative Brings Safe Drinking Water to Thousands in Rural East Africa

Nairobi, Kenya / Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – June 15, 2025 — The Clean Water Initiative – East Africa has reached a major milestone in its mission to provide clean and safe drinking water to underserved rural communities. To date, 15 sustainable water wells have been successfully constructed in Kenya and Tanzania, delivering reliable access to clean water for more than 8,500 people.

In many rural regions, families are forced to walk several kilometers each day to collect water from unsafe sources. This exposes communities to preventable waterborne diseases and limits educational and economic opportunities—especially for women and girls.

The Clean Water Initiative addresses these challenges through a sustainable, community-led approach. In close cooperation with local partners, the initiative identifies optimal well locations, constructs durable water points, trains local water committees in operation and maintenance, and implements hygiene education and regular water quality monitoring.

“Clean water is the foundation of healthy and resilient communities,” said a spokesperson for the Clean Water Initiative. “By empowering local communities, we ensure long-term impact that goes far beyond access to water.”

Impact at a Glance

  • 15 wells constructed, each serving approximately 500–600 people
  • More than 8,500 people now have access to clean drinking water
  • Waterborne diseases reduced by 60% in target communities
  • Daily water collection time reduced from up to six hours to less than 30 minutes
  • Improved school attendance and economic participation
  • Local water committees trained to ensure sustainability

The project is implemented in partnership with Local Community Organizations, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, and the Global Water Foundation.

Next Steps

With a total fundraising goal of USD 75,000 and USD 52,000 already raised, the initiative is entering its next phase. By the end of 2026, 10 additional wells are planned, bringing clean water to an estimated 6,000 more people in rural Kenya and Tanzania.

How to Support

  • $50 provides hygiene education for one family
  • $250 supports the training of a water committee member
  • $5,000 funds the construction of a well serving 500+ people

By supporting the Clean Water Initiative, donors help deliver health, dignity, and opportunity to communities that need it most.
