Girls Education Program - Rural Kenya

Breaking Barriers to Girls’ Education

In rural Kenya, social norms, poverty, and limited infrastructure continue to prevent many girls from accessing quality education. Our Girls Education Program is changing this reality by addressing both the practical obstacles and the deeply rooted cultural challenges that keep girls out of school.

The Problem

Despite national progress, girls in rural communities still face:

  • Early marriage and teenage pregnancy
  • Heavy household and caregiving responsibilities
  • Long and unsafe journeys to school
  • Limited community awareness of the value of girls’ education
  • Poorly resourced and overcrowded schools

Our Approach

We implement a holistic, community-driven model that includes:

Direct Support

  • School supplies and uniforms
  • Nutritious school meals
  • Safe transportation solutions
  • Tutoring and remedial learning support

Community Engagement

  • Community dialogues on girls’ education
  • Parent and caregiver education sessions
  • Male ally and role-model initiatives
  • Public celebrations of girls’ academic achievements

School Infrastructure

  • Safe and gender-sensitive school facilities
  • Community learning centers
  • Libraries and learning materials
  • Teacher training in inclusive and child-centered education

Success Stories

Meet Amina, 13, who dreamed of becoming a nurse but was at risk of dropping out due to financial hardship. Through our program, we supported her family and worked closely with local leaders. Today, Amina ranks among the top students in her school and mentors younger girls in her community.

Measuring Impact

Our program has achieved:

  • 94% school attendance (compared to a 62% regional average)
  • Zero dropouts due to early marriage
  • Strong improvements in literacy and numeracy skills
  • Increased community advocacy for girls’ education

Sustainability

We ensure long-term impact by:

  • Training local teachers and community mentors
  • Strengthening community ownership and leadership
  • Building girl-led peer support networks
  • Aligning closely with county and national education programs

Support This Program

Your contribution helps keep girls in school:

  • $25/month sponsors one girl’s education
  • $100 provides school supplies for 10 girls
  • $500 trains one teacher in inclusive education
  • $2,500 establishes a community learning center

Together, we can ensure every girl in rural Kenya has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and shape her own future.
